Ambassador Yousef Al Otaiba

Recently awarded the title of Ambassador of the Year by the National U.S.-Arab Chamber of Commerce, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Ambassador Yousef Al Otaiba has served in this diplomat role since July 2008. At a luncheon honoring his efforts, Ambassador Yousef Al Otaiba discussed the importance of maintaining strong commercial ties between the two nations, not only for economic prosperity, but for building functioning relationships. While the award highlighted his financial accomplishments, Ambassador Yousef Al Otaiba wants to improve relations between the U.S. and the UAE in all areas. With the establishment of the Oasis Foundation in Washington, DC, Ambassador Yousef Al Otaiba focuses on cross-cultural investment that fosters a deeper understanding of the two cultures. Additionally, the Foundation sponsors and assists charities involving educational advancement, technological innovations, community development, and the promotion of arts and culture. To this effect, Ambassador Yousef Al Otaiba’s Foundation supported the Barbara Bush Foundation for Family Literacy’s Maryland Celebration of Reading, which promotes household literacy programs. Additionally, Ambassador Yousef Al Otaiba and the Foundation contributed resources to the Al-Bustan Seeds of Culture, an organization that educates youth about Arabic culture and language through musical instruction, workshops, and summer camps. Ambassador Yousef Al Otaiba also supports philanthropic endeavors independent of the Oasis Foundation. Working with the Children’s National Medical Center, Ambassador Yousef Al Otaiba matched all donations, raising over $528,000 for the Center and shaved his head in support of the fight against cancer.
