Biography
John Green began his career in the television industry in 1991 as a freelance news writer at Boston CBS affiliate WHDH. Green then went on to produce a morning news and weekly bilingual news magazine at a Boston ABC affiliate. Eventually, John Green made the move to ABC News in the mid-1990s as a field producer and a supervising producer. Among the stories covered by Green were the investigation into the death of Princess Diana, the trial of Oklahoma City bomber Timothy McVeigh, the Elian Gonzales story, the TWA 800 crash investigation, the 2000 presidential election season, the collapse of the Russian economy, and the terror attacks of September 11. In 2001, John Green became a Senior Producer of "Good Morning America," while simultaneously running the control room as the principal broadcast line producer.
In 2004, John Green was promoted to Executive Producer and launched "Good Morning America's Weekend Edition," a program which has since become the fastest-growing of the three weekend morning network news programs in the ratings for three straight years. In 2007, Green's production resume extended to include his promotion to Executive Producer of Special Programming and Development for ABC News. The promotion meant added responsibilities including the creation and production of news and feature specials for the ABC news magazines, along with new programming for the news network at large. John Green's work with ABC has earned him national recognition, and he is a recipient of Emmy, Peabody, DuPont, and National Headliner awards.
