North Carolina high school teacher Mark Odougherty’s pedagogical specialties include adolescent literature, British and American literature, and writing. Mark Odougherty emphasizes encouraging his students and connecting them with a broad range of resources in and out of the classroom. Dedicated to his own education, Mark Odougherty worked his way through his undergraduate years, taking on a full-time job to pay for tuition and books. An excellent student in his own right, Mark Odougherty graduated magna cum laude with a degree in Public Relations/Communications. Before transitioning to teaching, Mark Odougherty spent several years employed in management and sales. In 2007, Mark Odougherty earned his Masters in Teaching Secondary English from the University of North Carolina, Charlotte. Mark Odougherty enjoys teaching all levels of high school English, but he is particularly adept at preparing ninth-graders, recently helping his students to deliver End of Course test scores some 20% above the district's historic average. Certified by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards, Mark Odougherty remains dedicated to the advancement of his field and his students’ futures. Mark Odougherty is a member of Kappa Delta Phi International Honor Society in Education, the National Council of Teachers of English, the North Carolina Association of Educators, and the Professional Learning Community at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Mark Odougherty currently resides in suburban North Carolina, where he enjoys cycling, reading, fishing, and watching spectator sports. Mark Odougherty performs community service for his church and supports the United Way, Goodwill, and the Salvation Army.
