Mahalo for taking a moment to review this. Over the course of years with Hawaii State OSHA as a Safety Compliance Officer & Supervisor, I have witnessed the horror and tragety when a company is involved with a workplace fatality, and became involved in promoting safety to trade industries to STOP needless injuries and deaths.
When I left several of my contacts had asked me to consider offering Loss Prevention training in several areas. I still have a continued passion in helping the community business owners to protect their employees through educational and experienced based motivation and was actively involved in the “Tie Off Its Your Life” campaign.
So I stepped up and took a chance to try to run my own business during these bad economic times, but this may be the best time for us. As companies start to cut back positions, the need for outside safety professionals will grow, and we would like to be a dominator in that industry.
What I demonstrate and teach will make a difference in the workers’ attitude. How I get business owners to understand liability issues is gripping, and the bottom line is the owners and workers understand each other’s roles in EMPLOYEE protection while on the jobsite.
Several companies expressed an interest in me, taking my experiences & training in helping them to build their barely effective safety programs. Currently, I have clients considering the services for new hires, needing immediate training, but need to wait until a class is open.
I also conduct Accident & Fatality investigations (preferably AS SOON as the accident happens), Workplace Hazard Assessments, First Aid/CPR, Fall Protection Practices & Criteria and other training, assists in writing safety programs and implementing. I will be attending a course for train the trainer in Fall Protection Rescue which we found most companies are required to have, but do not.
I am not in competition with anyone and never want to step on any company or organization, I am available to anyone who wants to save lives, and seek kokua or motivation to do so. Not many in this industry can say that they have not only witnessed the tragedy, but had to speak with the family members in regards to the investigation and testify in hearings.
Companies have me come into safety briefings, just to speak on what it takes as a team effort to make their safety program work, thus, lowering injuries or potential to a fatal accident, but in thinking about their families and the impact it can have on them. They find that their own insurance carriers do not have the trained & experienced people to observe all the potential hazards their workers may be exposed to, or the resources to help them to develop an effective safety program to prevent injuries.
Our mission is to get the message out to our workers statewide that they need to think about their families first when going to work. As a former OSHA Investigator who has witnessed the tragedy, I have a way of getting their attention and helping them to remember. We help those companies and organizations that REALLY need someone to help them develop an effective safety program.
