POSITION SUMMARY

 

As the successful candidate you will join a team of professionals responsible for maintaining and supporting the BlackBerry Relay and production environment. This position will manage a heterogeneous environment comprised of systems running Windows, UNIX and Linux.

 

Your responsibilities will include architecture and deployment of core infrastructure, performing software implementations and upgrades, resolving and documenting service incidents, capacity management validation, creating implementation plans for the 24/7 NOC staff, testing and certifying new technologies, assisting with carrier partner launches and working within the defined change management processes to plan and schedule changes.

 

You will also be responsible for the population of the Problem Management knowledge base, and the conversion of known issues into planned changes. Responsibilities are subject to change as the role and environment evolves. This position reports to the Manager of BlackBerry Service Engineering.

 

ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must have demonstrated 5-10 years of Experience with Windows and Unix/Linux administration
  • Must have experience with networking technologies, wexxw Oracle databases and SQL
  • Scripting experience (Perl, python, Shell, VBScript, Jscript, Awk)
  • Experience with enterprise class monitoring tools
  • Demonstrated experience in system performance management techniques and performance-related system level tuning
  • Demonstrated experience in the integration and interoperation of Windows and UNIX platforms in an enterprise environment
  • Post secondary Education in Computer Systems or a related discipline
  • Demonstrated experience as a proponent of 'best practices' and a leader in continuous improvement activities
  • Ability and motivation to learn new technologies quickly and with minimal support and guidance
  • Five to eight years experience in an IT Administration or Network Operations setting along with demonstrated leadership skills
  • Capable of reacting quickly to problems and following established procedures to implement solutions
  • Experience in proactive problem management techniques and reporting
  • Able to handle stressful situations with a level- headed approach and make extensive use of available resources
  • Demonstrated organizational skills
  • Strong written and verbal skills
  • Able to operate in a 7x24 operational environment

ADDITIONAL ASSETS

  • Previous programming experience (Java, Ruby, C, C++ programming language)
  • Project Management skills would be an asset
  • ITIL Experience
  • Nice to have PL/SQL scripting
