Interview

An Interview with Krishna De
Interview conducted on Friday, December 30, 2005

If you could give the world one piece of advice, what would it be?
Krishna: Take the time out to uncover what you are strong at and find ways to build them into your career and personal life. Applying our limited resources of time and energy on our development needs and ignoring the enhancement of our strengths, the best we can hope to be is average: I don't beleive a mediocre life is what any of us wish for! (That’s not to say we should ignore our development areas – we need to find ways of minimising their impact.) To be paid for doing a job that accesses the best of us and leaves us energised and inspired - can there be a better way to earn a living?!

If you could go back in time, would you do anything differently?
Krishna: In retrospect, I should have been more strategic and purposeful around my personal vision. If I had applied my business expertise to define and implement my personal vision, I would have had a different start to my own business - not necessarily better, but certainly different. This insight however is now a fundamental part of my work with clients - they can benefit from my mistakes!

Do you love what you do? Why?
Krishna: Yes - I am truly delighted and honoured to be working with great visionary leaders and entrepreneurs. My strengths of being Inspiring; Authentic; Visionary; International; Resourceful; Experienced; Connected; Networked; Generous; Outcome Focused are all put to full use in my work. In addition, I continue to learn everyday which is very enriching and helps me be more effective in my career.

Name a couple of organizations that you belong to
Krishna: I am the Founder and Vice Chair of the Association for Coaching in Ireland and I am passionate about increasing the standards of the business coaching profession for the benefit of organisations, clients and coaches alike. I am also the Founder of PodCamp Ireland the very first stand-alone event to promote the use and provide guidance and tips on the subject of social media in Ireland. I enjoy connecting to other social media enthusiasts through our blog, podcasts and annual conference.

What was your very first job experience and how did it affect you?
Krishna: My first job was helping a family friend in a florist shop at the age of 14 years. It nurtured my creativity but more importantly it helped me value the importance of effective customer service which I have been able to use throughout my career.

What was your most difficult decision in the last year and what made it so difficult?
Krishna: In the middle of 2004 I was faced with a number of opportunities. I realised that I needed to follow what I believe in: that if we use access our strengths and passions and leverage them in our careers, we will enjoy greater success and happiness. As a result I left a wonderful corporate career to establish a business and now work with business leaders to help them fulfill their own goals through leveraging their strengths. It is a fantastic journey I am on and I don't regret the decision to leave my corporate life behind. I am learning something new everyday and meeting very interesting people who themselves are unique and have great experiences and stories that they share with me.

Can you name one accomplishment in your life most people might not know about?
Krishna: I am passionate about creating inspiring environments for living and working and recently completed and interior design course.

If there was one person, alive or dead, that you could spend a day with, who would it be? Why?
Krishna: I would love to spend a day with my father who died when I was very young. I would ask him questions about his own childhood but more importantly I'd spend the time getting to know him.
