Interview

An Interview with Kent Blumberg
Interview conducted on Sunday, February 12, 2006

What is your favorite quote and what does it mean to you?
Kent: The one on this profile: "I would rather have a mind opened by wonder than one closed by belief." For me, life gives in proportion to my curiosity - the more I wonder, the more joy I find in life. And the more I "believe", the less truth I am able to see.

What was the most important decision you have ever made in regards to your career?
Kent: Listening to Frank Belleque. Frank taught me early in my career that a college education was only one way to understand the world, and that the more carefully I listened, the more I would succeed.

Do you love what you do? Why?
Kent: Absolutely, because I have the opportunity to do what I do best every day and because I get the chance to help other executives find their own paths to success.

If you could see yourself ten years in the future, what would you be doing?
Kent: I would be working with ten to twenty very senior executives, helping each with her own development, with her team, and with the culture in her workplace.

Describe one of your long-term goals
Kent: At my death, people say I was a focused high energy visionary who made a difference to people, companies, family and community.

Name two aspects of your career that you are most passionate about
Kent: Helping grow the leaders of tomorrow, and delighting customers with unique value propositions.

What is your favorite hobby or past time?
Kent: Photography. I love the process of finding images, capturing them on the memory card, and using my computer to turn them into something pleasing for me to look at. Some of my pictures are at http://photos.yahoo.com/kentblumberg.

In high school, what was your favorite subject and why?
Kent: Drama, because acting in plays on the highschool stage gave me the first opportunity to create laughter and applause - and I ate it up.

Do you think that you are successful?
Kent: I am becoming successful, as I learn each day to live a bit better than the last. But I still have a lot to learn. For me, success is making the most of my inate talents - being the best me that I can be.
